Theo Anthony is an artist and filmmaker who uses the documentary form to tell stories about complex systems and histories. His previous films have explored unlikely connections between instant replay in tennis and the legal system, between early astronomical innovations and police body camera policy, and the sociopolitical entanglements of pest control in Baltimore.

At Radcliffe, Anthony is developing a new feature-length project about Chicago’s sewer system, situating the challenges it faces with climate change within a deeper narrative of a landscape that is always moving through cycles of growth, disturbance, and adaptation.

Anthony’s films have played at festivals across the world and have received widespread critical acclaim. His first feature, Rat Film (2016), premiered internationally at the Locarno Film Festival. In 2017, it received a nomination for the Gotham Award for best documentary feature as well as a Cinema Eye Honors nomination for best debut feature. The film was theatrically released in 32 cities and was featured on PBS’s Independent Lens in early 2018. His follow up, Subject to Review (2019), produced for ESPN’s 30 for 30 series, played at the 2019 New York Film Festival and was broadcast nationally later that year. His most recent feature, All Light, Everywhere (2021), premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won a special jury award. The film received an international theatrical release and is now streaming on Hulu. Most recently, Anthony served as the Fourth Ward council member for his hometown of Hudson, New York.
