Sandra Susan Smith is a trained sociologist whose research interests lie at the intersection of race/ethnicity, poverty, and punishment. At Radcliffe, she will complete a book project that seeks to explain why spending any more than one day in pretrial detention can dramatically alter individuals’ life chances.
