Lixing Sun is currently a distinguished research professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Central Washington University. He is the author of several books, including The Liars of Nature and the Nature of Liars: Cheating and Deception in the Living World (Princeton University Press, 2023) and The Fairness Instinct: The Robin Hood Mentality and Our Biological Nature (Prometheus Books, 2013), and the coauthor of The Beaver: Natural History of a Wetlands Engineer (Comstock Publishing Associates, 2003). In addition, he has authored or coauthored 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles, nine book chapters in four academic books, and coedited one academic book, The Behavioral Ecology of the Tibetan Macaque (Springer Cham, 2019). His writings also appear in such popular magazines as Evonomics, Nautilus, Psychology Today, Science, This View of Life Magazine, and Time.

At Radcliffe, Sun directs his attention toward crafting a new book titled “Unsexed.” This work aims to systematically delve into the evolutionary intricacies and dynamics of sex and gender diversity. It serves as a crucial element in his ongoing quest to address scientific issues concerning diversity and social justice.

Sun earned his PhD from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry and Syracuse University. He received his BS and MS degrees from Each China Normal University, in Shanghai, China.
