Message from Dean Tomiko Brown-Nagin

“This year has prompted many of us to reflect on our responsibilities to confront vital issues facing our society. During this extraordinarily challenging period, I am proud that the Radcliffe community has engaged deeply and fearlessly with difficult issues by doing what we do best: leveraging knowledge and insights that span disciplines and investing in the work of our fellows, students, faculty, and researchers. Thank you for your partnership as Leadership Society donors.”

Society Updates

The Leadership Society provides unique opportunities for donors to engage directly with the work they make possible. This year, donors received curated opportunities to engage with exciting work at the Institute, including:

Accompanied: The Artworks of Marilyn Pappas and Jill Slosburg-Ackerman, an online exhibition that explores the decades-long friendship and artistic practices of two Bunting fellows

• Jill Lepore’s fascinating new book, If Then: How the Simulmatics Corporation Invented the Future, which she wrote during her Radcliffe fellowship

• Private discussions with Dean Brown-Nagin and Radcliffe fellows and faculty (Trailblazer and Pioneer levels), including with Ayodele Casel following her transfixing performance of Diary of a Tap Dancer; with Tiya Miles regarding her work on the presidential initiative on Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery; and with Robert F. Reid-Pharr on his virtual fellowship experience and in-progress biography of James Baldwin

We invite you to continue to engage with the Institute’s work—and your fellow supporters—by participating in the Leadership Society at any of the below levels.

Trailblazer: $25,000
Pioneer: $10,000
Innovator: $5,000

*Trailblazers and Pioneers: Save the date of June 2, 2021, for a private discussion with Dean Tomiko Brown-Nagin.

The Impact of Philanthropy

Unlike most higher education institutions, Radcliffe does not receive unrestricted funding in the form of tuition revenue. As a result, we rely even more on the generosity of the Radcliffe community to sustain our programming. Philanthropy, in the form of current-use gifts and income generated from endowed donor funds, provides 97 percent of our annual operating revenues. In Fiscal Year 2020, Leadership Society donors contributed 71 percent of Radcliffe’s current-use revenues.
